Fictional Feasts
Moloko Plus from A Clockwork Orange
The spiked milk drink from the Korova Milk Bar, sharpening the mind for a bit of the old ultraviolence. Our version is considerably more legal.
Ingredients
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/4 cup sweetened condensed milk
- 2 oz white rum or vodka (optional)
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
- 2 tablespoons honey
- Pinch of cinnamon
- Pinch of nutmeg
- Ice cubes
- Whipped cream for topping
- Silver edible glitter (optional)
Preparation
In Anthony Burgess's dystopian London, Alex and his droogs began their evenings at the Korova Milk Bar, drinking milk-plus—milk spiked with various substances that prepared them for their nefarious nights. Our version omits the illegal "plus" ingredients, but captures the creamy, slightly surreal essence of this infamous beverage.
Mixing Your Moloko
- In a blender, combine whole milk, sweetened condensed milk, and honey.
- Add vanilla extract, almond extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- If using alcohol, add it now (try different spirits for different "plus" versions).
- Add ice cubes and blend until smooth and frothy.
- Pour into tall glasses.
- Top with whipped cream.
- For that Korova aesthetic, dust with silver edible glitter or a pinch of cinnamon.
Variations (Different "Plus" Options)
- Vellocet: Add a shot of espresso and chocolate syrup
- Synthemesc: Add blue curaçao and coconut cream
- Drencrom: Add strawberry syrup and a splash of grenadine
Serving Suggestion: Play Beethoven's Ninth Symphony in the background and serve in the most modernist glasses you own. The droogs would approve—minus the ultraviolence, of course.
