Ingredients

0/10 ready
  • 2 tablespoons white or red miso paste
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 pack instant ramen noodles (seasoning packet discarded)
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons frozen edamame
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 teaspoons soy sauce
  • 1 green onion, sliced
  • ½ teaspoon chili crisp or sriracha
  • 1 sheet nori, torn into pieces

The Story & Steps

There's something beautifully rebellious about crafting restaurant-quality ramen at midnight in your largest coffee mug. This isn't sad desk lunch energy—this is intentional, delicious solitude.

Instructions

  1. In your largest microwave-safe mug (at least 16 oz), dissolve the miso paste in boiling water, stirring until completely smooth.
  2. Add the dry ramen noodles, breaking them if needed to fit. Microwave on high for 2 minutes.
  3. Carefully remove (it's hot!), stir, then add the frozen edamame. Microwave for another 1 minute.
  4. While that's cooking, soft-boil your egg: pierce the shell with a pin, place in a small bowl with water, and microwave for 45 seconds. Let sit for 1 minute, then run under cold water and peel.
  5. Stir sesame oil and soy sauce into your ramen mug. Nestle the halved egg on top.
  6. Crown with green onions, chili crisp, and torn nori pieces.

Solo Dining Tip: Eat this straight from the mug while standing at your kitchen counter, wrapped in your favorite blanket. No bowls to wash means more time for whatever brought you to the kitchen at this hour.
